Slate Hill

Slate Hill

The trees at the top of the slate heap were starkly silhouetted against the wintry sky.

Had a long weekend in the Lake District just after I came back from Zambia. On one of our walks we came through a quarry at the end of Langdale. There was a sense of desolation among the mountains of discarded slate and a few trees survived in what seemed a cold, hostile place.

I liked the detail and rythm of the slate, it comes out wonderfully in print.
