One of the trips we made when in we were staying in Amsterdam was to Doesburg. It is a small town that used to be more important in the past, before the 15th century AD, when the river Oude IJssel was an important trade route. Later it became shallow and boats stopped coming leading to a decline in trade. Some of the buildings reflect the towns former glory.
There was also small museum dedicated to the work of René Lalique. It was basically a private collection, expanded by pieces on loan. We also had the opportunity to buy some pieces that were displayed in a separate room were we enjoyed a cup of tea served by the owner. Unfortunately, although some of the lamps and vases would have looked great in our house we had to decline.
