I had some work to do and a stray cat to catch, but on Sunday morning the weather was just too good not to go for a walk. It had to be nearish home and the autumn colours can be spectacular in Hardcastle Crags, so the choice was quickly made. While walking around in the river valley we agreed how lucky we were to live in a part of the country where views, rivers and woods like these are just on our doorstep. Well, it’s partly luck and partly a conscious decision. In the spreadsheet formula that I created to choose the house where we were going to live (the spreadsheet which outcome we ignored, because it was not the house we knew in our hearts that was the one for us), proximity to good walking country was given significant importance, on a par with having a local supermarket.
