I am not really a bird photographer, but as I had a couple of hours to kill and I was near the Brockholes nature reserve I went and sat in a hide for an hour or so. It is near Preston, right next to the M6, which does mean the traffic noise is quite intrusive in the beginning. Fortunately after a few minutes you tend to filter it out of your consciousness. Quite apart from photography walking around the reserve is an enjoyable way to spend some time. Looking and listening and just being in the moment. The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, who own this nature reserve, are building a couple of new hides. Unfortunately it was necessary to replace the wooden ones as they had been set on fire by some *****s (fill in your expletive of choice.) The new ones don’t look as ‘natural’ but hopefully they’ll last a bit longer as they are constructed of metal and breeze blocks.
